Based on a report in Asian Age, researchers discovered that over 1.6 million people in poor counties died in 2016 from diarrhea caused by contaminated food and water, while another 2.4 million from lung infections.
According to the study, fewer children are dying before their fifth birthday and though people are living longer than before, one in five deaths last year were related to poor diet.
Furthermore, among all forms of malnutrition, poor dietary habits, mainly low intake of healthy foods is the leading risk factor for death.
