DIWALI SPECIAL: Skin Care for the Festive Season

DIWALI SPECIAL Skin Care

Skin Care for the Festive Season! The festive season is here! Diwali is the most awaited festival in India, a time for fun and family. But along with it, comes loads of running around, shopping, cleaning, get-togethers, having lots of sweets, and less sleep. Your skin also gets subjected to dust, pollutants, and smoke, particularly on the Diwali day. Exhaustion, pollution, and diet cause an increase in skin-related problems. Here are some skin care tips, that will help protect your skin during Diwali:

Food control

What you eat reflects on your skin. After overeating sugary and fried snacks all through the festive season, your skin may become excessively oily. Fried foods promote breakouts and make your skin look dull. If you have acne prone skin, then excessive consumption of sweets and chocolates, can worsen your acne. It is, therefore, better to avoid or limit your intake of sugary and fried foods. Snack on dry fruits, at regular intervals, to prevent overeating, and make sure you consume a bowl of fresh fruits daily to balance all that oily food.

Avoid pollution

Bursting crackers is a significant part of the Diwali celebrations. Crackers emit a lot of smoke and pollutants in the air, which can irritate your skin, causing itching, skin rashes, and skin allergies. Maintain a safe distance from burning crackers. Moreover, if you have sensitive skin, it is better to cover your face with a cotton scarf or cloth, while lighting or watching crackers. Wash your face and hands thoroughly with mild soap and water immediately afterwards, and then apply a moisturizer.

Wash your face

With the increase in pollution due to firecrackers, you need to take extra steps to deal with the skin damaging effects of the pollution. To remove dust and grime that has settled on your skin, wash your face at least twice a day, to keep it clean. Use a gentle, foaming face wash and avoid harsh cleansers. You can also use wet facial wipes to clean your face. Also, regular exfoliation or scrubbing of skin is essential to keep it soft and unblock pores.

Moisturize

This festival season is responsible for a lot of skin related problems. Skin becomes sagged, dry, and dull due to exhaustion, pollution, and diet. Moreover, the festive season arrives in winter, which is harsh on the skin, making it dry and flaky. Therefore, don’t forget to moisturize your skin. Choose a good, creamy moisturizer depending on your skin type. Apply moisturizer on your face, hands, and legs to hydrate the skin and avoid dryness.

Remove your makeup

Diwali is all about get-togethers and celebrations and hence the need to constantly apply makeup. Use good quality makeup, and avoid heavy cosmetics on an acne prone skin. More importantly, make sure that you remove all the makeup before going to bed, or else it may harm your skin. Sleeping with your makeup on can suffocate your skin. Overnight, your skin will absorb chemicals from the makeup, block up pores and cause breakouts.

Stay hydrated

Among the hustle bustle of the festival, you may forget to drink sufficient water. You need to drink plenty of water throughout the day, so that you are not dehydrated. Moreover, drinking a lot of fluid helps flush out toxins from your body and skin, clears up your skin and helps give you a healthy glow.

Wish you all a very Healthy & Happy Diwali from Hidoc!
